Rip CordI was hanging 180 feet above the ground with a harness attached to a huge wire. I was about to be dropped into a free-fall and swung like a pendulum. The worst part of it was the fact that they chose me to pull the cord that would release us into our eminent doom. I pulled the cord. It was as if we were in a cartoon and merely hanging in mid-air with nothing to support us. This feeling only lasted a second until we dove toward the Earth at about 80 miles per hour. Maximus PoliticusI first decided to do extemporaneous speaking in my second year of speech and debate. I was going to expand my boundaries and try the new event. I was incredibly trepidatious. There was one thing that helped me work through my fear, however. That one thing was my extemp box. Every competing school must have one of these. This is a box with magazines and research in it that is used to answer the questions asked at the speech tournament. Over the past four years, I have become very close to my extemp box. It is easy to love because it is aesthetically appealMaximus Politicus
